To avoid expensive and time consuming court litigation, an increasing number of technology transfer agreements include clauses requiring parties to use meditation to try to settle their disputes prior to pursuing other alternatives. What does a mediation session look like? Based on a real case, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center presents an interactive workshop to demonstrate the process of mediation in a lively and informative way. The mock mediation will consist of five participants – a university technology transfer professional and legal counsel, a company executive and legal counsel, and a mediator chosen by the parties – and aims to demonstrate the potential advantages of mediation as a time- and cost-effective means of resolving disputes and maintaining business relationships.
