Patent Claims define the “metes and bounds” of a patented technology. The licensing value of the patented technology may be directly related to the scope provided by the claims. It is extremely important to understand that the courts are regularly redefining how patent claims are interpreted. Technology transfer professionals need to understand how the dynamically changing legal landscape of the claims that their patent attorneys and agents are writing may affect their ability to license their technologies.
