As the number of startups spun out of universities increases, so does the rate at which university startups fail. Universities that don't find themselves in entrepreneurial talent-rich pools like Silicon Valley and New York City likely have the same issue that we (the UofKY) do: the scope of our institution's research is broader than the immediately accessible talent pool of willing entrepreneurs ready to take management roles of startups. Further, a majority of our entrepreneurial faculty do not actually intend to take entrepreneurial leave or take on a full-time startup executive management role. Therefore, we need to increase our access to would-be entrepreneurial executives and more acutely match their experience with our startups.
