2008 Bayh-Dole Fellowship in Public Policy

This annual fellowship provides support to one recipient for research into a public policy issue of interest.

The fellowship provides:

  • An honorarium of $1,000
  • Complimentary registration to the AUTM 2008 Annual Meeting
  • Reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs associated with that meeting up to $1,500
  • Reimbursement of out-of-pocket research expenses up to $2,000 in accordance with an approved budget

AUTM created this fellowship on the occasion of the Association’s 30th anniversary to honor U.S. Senators Birch Bayh and Robert Dole for their efforts in co-sponsoring Public Law 96-517, the Patent and Trademark Act Amendments of 1980, known widely as the Bayh-Dole Act. AUTM members and non-members are welcome to apply.

Requirements
Applicants must:

  • Be employed for at least five years in the field of technology transfer or a related profession
  • Have a demonstrated record of achievement and dedication to the profession of technology transfer or a related profession
  • Submit an application along with and two letters of support or recommendation and a proposed research budget

Selection
The scholarship is open to AUTM members and nonmembers. AUTM typically announces fellowship recipients in mid-summer to allow time to research the topic through the summer and fall. The fellowship is awarded based on the proposed public policy topic and the individual's curriculum vitae. AUTM encourages approaches that cover a broad spectrum of view points including an international perspective.
