AUTM is committed to assisting the academic community study the process of technology transfer in its broadest sense. To this end, AUTM will provide one of the following services, upon approval of a data collection application:
- Accept proposals from academics for supplement questions to be added on a one-time basis to the AUTM annual survey
- Provide limited access to its e-mail list of AUTM technology transfer directors
- Otherwise distribute questions through AUTM’s respondent network for the collection of data to support an identified research project
The AUTM Metrics and Surveys Committee is accepting collection proposals through January 31, 2008.
If a data collection proposal is accepted, AUTM will ask the principal investigator (PI) to develop a short set of survey questions that burden the respondent for only a short period of time.

AUTM Administration of Survey
If AUTM administers the survey directly (that is, questions are added to a survey AUTM is already conducting) then AUTM will:
- Administer the survey for the PI
- Assemble the survey responses in a Microsoft® Excel® format
- Provide other approved control variables from the AUTM database, as purchased by the PI, if applicable
The PI will have sole use of the data from the supplemental questions for no less than a period of 12 months after receiving such data from AUTM. After that time, the collected data will become part of the AUTM database that is available through AUTM’s standard terms. Also, AUTM reserves the right to incorporate the PI’s survey questions into subsequent AUTM surveys.
AUTM Provides List of Tech Transfer Office Directors
If AUTM provides the Director e-mail list, the researcher must identify a specific and limited time period when the survey will be sent out. The e-mail list will be authorized for use only during that time period. AUTM will provide additional instructions regarding the use of the AUTM name.
AUTM's Expectations of the PI
The PI, in return for the collection and organization of the data or use of the e-mail list, will prepare a report for AUTM summarizing his/her findings. AUTM reserves the right to post this report on its Web site or otherwise make the findings available, in the format provided by the PI. In addition, the PI may be asked, after the end of the 12-month period, to present a paper summarizing his/her findings at the AUTM Annual Meeting or other AUTM event. AUTM reserves the right to publish such paper in its publications.
